GOOD: i can totally tell her anything and she'll never spread it around.
BAD:but she also compares everything she has to me. friends included. so it's like we're always in competition. which get's me fired up all the time..and so i end up sounding like a jealous freak.
GOOD: we relate to each other over everything.
BAD: she's just been really getting on my nerves lately..and she just trys to make everything about her. but when i do talk about MY life..it's like she doesn't listen.

any advice? especially on the competition thing..anyone?

You've probably been best friends for so long she's turned into your sister. Perfectly normal. I have my "brothers from another mother". We're exactly the same.

It sounds like the two of you don't openly express your true feelings to one another. Be honest and let her know what is bothering you and give her the chance to say what bugs her about you so that you can clear the air and make this relationship better. I believe you are very good friends but you hold too much in instead of being totally truthful. Friends don't need to be in competition with each other, they are supposed to be cheerleaders for each other. While both of you seem to like each other, you are behaving like little kids - so knock it off.

absolutely not, mine is better that's why nothing breaks our friendship until today! best friend as such don't need to compare and be in competition. we have to lift one another up. when we have the best time in our lives they share the joy and happiness for us sincerely for the fact they know they have been contributing in it as well and they do not envy. what could be worst for a best friend that can't even lend an listening ear? worst than having such a person to be an acquaintance. if i'm having problems in my life and talk to my best friend about it, if she doesn't have anything better to say to help me, she keeps quiet cause nothing is better than just an listening ear, that already helps a lot for not adding more problems into my life and i appreciate her for her willingness to listen and her time spend for me.

a best friend do no judge/ condemn/ have any ill feelings towards one another. sincerity, honesty, transparency will build and sustain a friendship.

it's good that we know what category are our friends - acquaintance, just friends, close/ good/ best (which ever you name it) friend. so perhaps it's time you evaluate the people around you.

I think she is a good friend, and a keeper. but you have to sit down and tell her how you really feel. get all this out in the open and you will be surprised to learn that your friend is not aware of these little flaws, do not attack her, just say these things drive me to distraction, and I wonder if WE can work on it together, good luck

My best friend is like that also. I got the point where when she talked about her life I stopped paying attention and now everything is better.

It happens with all friends at some point. Comparing and jealousy is normal, just don't allow it to break the two of you apart.

You shouldn't let little things like that get in the way of your friend ship. Some times it feels as if your friend is trying to compet but i beet she is not really. it is only comming off that way. You should shair your feelings with her. It really helps.
