My parents. (Explanation follows.)
I was adopted by a gay couple at the age of twelve. My father and his partner were once graced with the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parent of the Year Award by the governor himself.
They were active in the City Council, Chamber of Commerce and the School Board.
They were local business owners, children's rights activists and fantastic role models in every way. All totaled I believe as long-term foster parents they have had in excess of 35 children over the years. Every one of them to date a success story compared to what they would otherwise have been as products of the system.
One of them passed away several years ago from heart failure and the remaining has to date adopted six of them not counting myself.
They put their first foster child through college and one or the other showed up for every sports event or school activity their children were involved in.
They had people from around the entire country tour the house to view their extensive collection of animated dolls for Christmas and frequently made the papers.
They were always there to help with homework and offer both emotional support and affection. They instilled a strong work ethic in every child and granted them the benefit of not only a family environment and the comfort that comes with it but also the unique perspective of having an alternative point of view in any situation.
They were the ideal parents in every way, shape and form and I could not have asked for better.

Very sorry about your Uncle - may he rest in peace.
I have high admiration for elderly African American lady. Her number one priority is the well-being of others. She is a volunteer in a Spiritual Healing Centre in Brazil. She works 24/7 providing mental, spiritual help, remedial massages etc.., . She is so modest, so wise, so beautiful . She doesn't know the meaning of the word "selfish". I can learn so much from her. I love her dearly & I wish I was more like her.
May God bless her.
