i just purchased another wireless card (lynkis) this one is stronger for my laptop but i cant seem to get it to work while im at home ( i have another pc with router it should oif worked but it didnt) and ive tried everywhere and it shows a "LOCK" and i dont know how encrypt.....can anyone help me or tell me how to encrypt so i can acess the internet through my laptop

You have a WEP on your router. You must have the WEP code from the router and set it up in the new card. To find your WEP code go into your router's setup or management area and find the security section and look for a WEP. You need a password and username to get in here also. If you had someone else set up your network, contact them and get the info from them, if you don't have it. You have a choice of two strenghts of WEP, 64-bit and 128-bit. Use the 128-bit and set up a password that is 26 characters long containing the letters A-F and the numbers 1-0.That is what you need for the new card.

Your router is broadcasting a SSID. This signal is probably encrypted. You need to know what the encryption key is in order to access your wireless signal. Check your routers user manual and your wireless card user manual for specific instructions. Also check the wireless networking forum and FAQ on dslreports.com to instruct you on how to encrypt your signal.

assuming the lock is seen on the network connection status, and you say you do not know how to encrypt,
are you sure you are connecting to the correct network?

it is probably encrypted. check if u on the right network.
