I heard in medieval England lower class people were not allowed to wear the same clothes as the nobles and the upper class.

The second part of your question here makes sense, seems to be what I remember too. I think it still goes on now here in the States. You'll see the upper class with the most expensive clothing and the lower class trying to look like the upper class by wearing clothing bought from second hand or thrift stores. It's very sad. I have to try to make my kids look good all the time so they won't be generalized as lower class people.

I have a godchild that age and all look alike. My godchild looks like a street walker, I will not go anywhere with her.

In old England lower class people were lucky if they had one exchange of clothing supplied by the upper class. They did not wear undergarments.

In the USA, young people dress whatever they feel like. No one here dresses base on what class they are from. You would not believe how many upper class dressed-up as a poor rapper. Believe me, you would not be able to identify them.

The other answers are just patriotic rubbish.

In the US there is a clear class system, with anglo saxon whites at the top and blacks at the bottom.

The whites traditionally dressed in a style called "preppy", the blacks in hip hip influenced "street" styles, often with those strangely exaggerated trainers and idiotic baggy trousers and crass, gold jewellery.

Of course there are many exceptions but there are clear patterns.

No, everyone prety much dresses the same...jeans, tshirts. Although I'm sure rich kids just wear more expensive versions of the same clothes!

people are allowed to dress whatever way they want. their are no rules saying that if your poor u cant wear certain stuff. its ture that u prbly cant afford it, but u definitly can wear it. nd yes, people do dress according to what class their from. for example, have u ever seen a poor person wearin versace, gucci, armani, dolce & gabbana, and so on? Only rich people wear that cause they can afford it.
