It would be good if it is a rental that would protect the wood from abuse and would be better for resale.

I bought a house 3 years ago w/wood floors under old carpet. Had the floors refinished. They look beautiful now. Yes, my living has a humongous echo. I personally don't want an area rug but you may want to try that. That will absorb a lot of the noise. I say, don't cover the wood. The wood will outlast the carpet. It's easier to take care of. They're virtually indestructible. Wood is more versatile. You don't have to worry about the color matching like a carpet would. Hope I've helped.

the only thing the carpet will do is cover great looking floors. the carpet will keep your tooties warm in the winter but thats about it plus if you ever want to take up the carpet at a later date then you will have to fix all the holes from the tack strip thats goes around the outer edge to hold down the carpet. the carpet will only muffle the noise of the furnace. Keep the wood floors and find out whats making the furnace noisey. If you have an old furnace then replace with a new energy efficiant one. But see whats wrong with old one may just be something loose. bad pulling and belt?? you don't say what kind of noise it's making. maybe have some one come and ck it get 2 or 3 estimates though. good luck I wouldn't cover them

Don't do it. Up the rent $50 dollars a month now. Use the "Beautiful refinished hardwood floors" as a selling point. Hardwood is easier to maintain and repair than carpet, not to mention the fact you won't have to replace it after every renter moves out. As the other poster said find out why the heater is creating noise. If it is just a noisy unit, box it in and surround it with a sound absorbing material, just make sure you follow caode and allow it some room to "breathe".

You have to consider a couple of things. Will there be pets allowed in the house? If so, then you are running the risk of future allergy sufferers--especially for those with cat allergies. It is very difficult to get the dander out of carpet. Why did you spend the $ to refinish if you are now going to cover them with carpet? You'll end up with carpet tack holes on those beautiful refinished floors...more cost to you. I don't think you'll get the money back either in rent or resale. Have your renter invest in some throw rugs.

My opinion is that it is a sin to cover wood floors with wall to wall carpet. Let the tenants buy an area rug.

Hardwood is a good . Many people love it. Put in a large remnant. Tell the tenants they have the choice. You can always store it away for the next tenant that wants it.

i'm partial to the wood floors - reduced allergins and dirt! throw rugs or a large area rug is a nice option for you but.... i don't recommend ccovering the wood.
