Trying to keep this short:
We have a new VP in our dept. Had some meetings where I had to step up for my employees and tell him he doesn't really know what all they are working on now- so until he does, I'd prefer he not give them additional "projects" just yet.
My employees love me for that- but stepped on the BIG guys toes. On Friday he and I had a meeting where he said I was an amazing worker/manager that he knows gets things done- but my bitterness was getting in my own way. He has also been badgering me with emails and questions.
I have been doing this for long enough to know I am basically screwed here.

How do I spin this- and make it better? More detail the better.

I know it feels like you're sliding down hill but don't give up...if he is new to his position then he probably is just as afraid of losing his job and security as you are. So put a smile on your face, get in there, answer as many questions as he has and try to keep a good attitude. That doesn't mean you have to kiss a$s, just look upon it as aiding in the transition and helping make it as smooth a change as possible for everyone involved.

Write down everything he does that bothers you, and how you feel, the next day re wirte it so you can clearly and effectivly communicate it to him. Once you have done so set up a meeting and present him with your concern very clearly. Get everything out and leave it at... "So what do you think we can do to solve this?" and let him do the talking, if he does not understand something use examples, clear examples. Let him "think" the ideas to solve the problems are all his ideas. This is difficult becasue I too had a boss that would not let up with the badgering I did the meeting thing and we were fine. If it doesn't help go to higher powers

You have to play it by ear. I have been in this situation twice. Once I won and the other I was basically forced to resign. The fact that he thinks you're an amazing worker is a good sign. However, just to cover your back ask that your objections are noted and do ask he asks. If there is a snafu or fubar you are somewhat protected and don't take the flak. If it works he was right and you had better practice your ****-kissing. However, in my experience (Exxon, British Telecom, British Gas) newbies are rarely right so you should be okay.
