I do I tell a guy that is my friend that I like him with out making things weird between us.

You just take the chance and go for it...there's no reason things should become 'weird' unless the two of you allow them to...he'll either reciprocate your feelings and y'all can go forward from there...or not, and nothing need change...

If you tell him, things will get weird between you. Maybe he likes you too, if he does, wait for him to make a move. Don't put yourself out there and set yourself up for disappointment.

you can't make an omlet without breaking an egg...
asking someone out, especially the person is your friend, always requires balls (well, not literally in your case, but you know what i mean...)
There is no avoiding the uncomfortableness time between the asking out and his reaction....is you think you are good looking and he always jokes about with you and get on well generally, then he likes you, in which case he will say yes and it wont be awkwards aferwards...
