I think that in this day and age the typicall american girl and boy think if you dont fit the "NORM" of how everyone else looks, then your ugly. So the main point of the show is to show the fact that your inner beauty should shine through and your face and things on it shouldnt matter. I suspect you know this already, though. I do not think that she is ugly anyway, even in the state she is portraided character-wise, just a typical teenage girl going through that time in her life of needing braces and her parents wont get her contacts, :)

I think the point of the show is that Betty is the only one who is NOT ugly.

she is NOT ugly. i look at her dressed up as Ugly Betty and think "come on! is that the best you can do?" now the real show in Spanish, la fea mas bea, they did the job right by making her hideous when in all actuality shes pretty.

No she's not ugly.. What really gets to me, well my opinion is that they are making it seem with glasses and braces and bad hair u have to be ugly... But it's just a show I guess.

No. The actress, America Ferrar, is actually cute as a button and you can see that for yourself in her non-uglified roles in "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" and "Real Women Have Curves".

Probably not. They make her out to be ugly. Bad hair, bad teeth, bad make up. IF you cleaned her up, she would probably be pretty.
