I mean when you go to buy a Ferrari, from the factory or from a dealer, how many shades of red can you choose from?

If you man, from the factory, dark or light. Other wise, they can be any color, you choose to have them painted. And there are many shades of red. I'd like to have a purple one, myself.

The answer is almost impossible to give, unless you have access to all the factory records, because Ferrari have used a number of different paint suppliers over the years, and each red has a variety of different shades. Some reds used are:
• Rosso Barchetta, a dark, burgundy red. • Rosso Cina a beautiful, rich dark red • Rosso Cordoba. a very deep brownish red, popular in the 60's & 70's. • Rosso Corso is more of a deep, blood red • Rosso dino is a very orange looking "red" • Rosso fiorano which is a dark almost wine colored red. on ferraris such as the 550 and the 575. • Rossa Rubino is a dark, almost burgundy red. • Rosso Scuderia is a LITTLE lighter red with a little orange tinge.

Other red are: Amaranto, Amaranto Roma, Amaranto Savid, Bordeaux, Rosso, Rosso Cherry, Rosso Chiaro, Rosso Ferrari, Rosso Maya, Rosso Mercedes, Rosso Met. (i.e. metallic red), Rosso Monza, Rosso Nearco, Rosso Rubino Chiaro, Rosso Scuro, Rosso Sir Ivor, Rosso Speciale, Rosso Toreador, Rosso Vivo, Rubino Micalizzato
Racing cars:
In the the '30s Ferrari use Roso Barchetta, then in the early '50s it change it to Rosso Corso, because the original color was too dark to show up well in the black-and-white media of the day. Then it change from Rosso Corso to Rosso Scuderia to adjust for color balance on television screens, so the red shows up on TV better .
