This should get some interesting answers...
I remember when I read the book, how different it was from the movie.
The movie (adapted from the book), definitely has rainbows and ruby slippers. In the book though, the shoes were made of silver, not rubies.
As far as the rainbow, I don't remember how the book mentioned it, but it may be in there somewhere.

Yes, there is a difference between the book and the movie. They made the silver slippers ruby because the ruby red would film better....I think if I remember correctly the rainbow is mentioned in the beginning of the book...double check it. Good luck...

There is no rainbow or ruby slippers in Baum's story. Your teacher thinks your assignment concerns the MGM film.
I've linked the entire text below. Good luck finding the word "rainbow" or the phrase "ruby slippers" anywhere in it. The only ocurrance of "ruby" concerns Glinda's palace, and it's furnishings.

Yes, the ruby slippers are the silver shoes. And the rainbow is probably something to do with "Somewhere over the rainbow".

Oz was supposed to exist on the other side of the Rainbow. The Ruby slippers originally belonged to the Wicked With of the East, but a house fell on her. Her sister, the Wicked Witch of the West tried to claim them . But, Glenda, the Good Witch had already placed them on Dorothy's feet.

No idea which version of the story you read.....silver slippers must have been on Glenda, the good witch. As for the rainbow....somewhere over the rainbow....OZ

I think the rainbow is only in the 1939 version of the movie ("Somewhere over the rainbow") .... I do not believe there is any rainbow in the book.
Perhaps your teacher is mixing up the book and the movie? Maybe she needs to read the book herself! :-)

Your teacher is referring to technicolor just being introduced to the world when the movie came out. Also, Dorthy sings "somewhere over the rainbow"
