I'm in high school and after seeing a few performances by the poms squad, and besides the fact of going outside in nothing but thin long sleeves and leggings in freezing cold weather, I think I might want to join next year. I did ballet, tap and jazz from ages 3 to 10 and then I quit, but now I rejoined this year at age 14 and I plan to stay with it. Would that help at all? I can't do the splits (yet) but I want to by the end of next summer. Does anyone have any tips on what it takes to be in poms and what I should do to get ready before the next school year (I know I have a lot of time)

work on being really stiff...it's almost just like cheerleading you have to hit every move really good....
work on your turns(doubles)and hitting like cheerleading moves in your mirror to see if their completely straight
GOOD LUCK!!!

You want to make sure you get your splits down or at least close to it. My friend didn't have her splits all the way, but she still made the squad and got them down a couple of weeks later. Also you want to have your kicks. At my school, our kick line is very important. Having dance experience will definatly help a lot, especially if you are flexible.
