i heard that you must have hawaiian blood in you in order to attend university there

You were misinformed...you do not have to have Hawaiian blood to attend the universities in Hawai`i. The person who told you this probably had the universities confused with the Kamehameha Schools.

The Kamehameha Schools is a private K-12 school that was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop in the late 1800s. Per the will, it is the policy of the Kamehameha Schools to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry (to the extent permitted by law).

The universities in Hawai`i do not have these type of admission policies and anyone can attend (well, assuming they have the grades).

No, that's not true. Although, it's a lot cheaper for you if you establish residency first. I would go to a junior college for the first two years to establish residency and then pay in-state rates for their state school.

absolutely untrue..But if you are a local you probably might have subsidized tuition.
