Yes, it is such an interwoven part of the system. You are in for a lot of LONG responses. Research some studies based on gender and culture. You'll get a good idea there.

Children are socialized from the beginning with pink or blue clothing/wallpaper/toys, etc. Little girls are given dolls and told to "play nice". Little boys are given trucks and balls and are roughhoused with.

The list goes on...read some research.

the second the doctor determines whether you're a boy or girl it basically decides for you how you will be treated in society. if youre a girl youre given barbie dolls and put in ballet class. if youre a boy youre given a g.i. joe and your dad teaches you football and baseball. there are always cases of more flamboyant boys and more tomboy-ish girls, but in general your gender shapes your life in society, unfortunately.

i did a paper and speech on this subject last year and would type the entire thing up for you, but i'll spare the boredom. i agree though. definitely do some research. it's actually pretty interesting.
