Do you know what happened to the business? You need to research that. If they got bought out by someone, there might have been shares of the purchasing company that replaced the ones you have. If that happened, you should have been notified at the time, and either sent new shares or, as sometimes happens, a check for the value of what you owned.

If the company just went out of business, then the shares wouldn't be worth anything any more.

I'd start by googling the company name, to find out what happened to them. Then if they got bought out by somebody who's still in business, you could write to them and ask.

Good luck.

If the company is gone, then the shares are likely worthless, too. (Sorry!)

Unless the company is gone because it was bought or merged with another company. You can reserach that at Yahoo!Finance.

But fret not, there are people who collect stock certificates, and they may be interested in paying you cash money for the paper!

Check to see if the company is listed here: http://www.scripophily.net/

Good luck...

Well, Yahoo Finance has historical prices for free, however if the company no longer exists you will probably have to do some research first to see if it just died or if it was acquired by another company.
