Well all i can say is there is certainly a potential for this medium maybe not yahoo unless it develops of course.
Maybe a serious section should be added to the selection as it seems at present that philosophy is the nearest category to that.
A category that would allow people to explore current issues of life and the world with the intention to make a change of some kind.
Even to have a dialogue set up to allow this to happen would be beneficial.
Where that could lead to is in the speculative arena for the present.
Groups could well evolve and develop from something as simple as this and that could make a real difference.
I have a question running at present...along the lines 'When should we disarm globally now or later?.'...........well its not a hit question since there has only been around 15 answers in 15 hours. It was intended to draw interest really and get a head count and see if anything could be started that might pilot a change in the real world.
Nevertheless I'm still optimistic.
It wont happen unless we do something.
Thanks for a very good question!

I hope it helps some of the human race, one look at some of the questions and you know that you can not do much harm considering how twisted some of them are. You can only give a positive and meaningful answer unless you are answering an intelligent meaningful question.
I would love this :
Yahoo Q/A should create different Q/A sites based on IQ level, to determine which site and level is appropriate for each person. And in addition to choosing Best Answer, a section called "Comments" So a person has an the opportunity to respond to unfavorable answers, as well.

I love Yahoo Q & A but I really don't understand the mentality of some people who get so nasty with me..with others, when you dont know us. I think many people that spend a lot of time on the computer have issues..maybe health, lonliness, shyness, handicapped etc. Whatever reason, maybe just overly computer addicted...things can be done in a funny way but why this desire of some to hurt?
I know there are some very smart people on here that could be such a great help if they'd let go of that need to have control/power.

It is my hope that Q&A-ers will look at all the answers to questions, and accept that they all represent a viewpoint. When we read answers with which we disagree, it is hoped that we may consider that there is always someone who holds the opposing view to balance the argument.
There is a potential, for people who are willing to embrace that approach, for Q&A to have an effect on the way people tolerate difference. Can't be a bad thing can it?
We must accept, however, that people will come to Q&A from many different starting places and for many different reasons. Some want to shock, some want to show off. Some may genuinely wish to share information. For some, tragically, it may be the only arena in which they can have their opinions heard or their only opportunity to interact with others. But in any event, for all contributors, I believe Q&A is meeting a need at some level, so, at the risk of repeating myself, I say again: Can't be a bad thing.

Not in the period we are in (in the UK)...demonising Muslims, moaning about 'mucky foreigners taking all our jobs' - the sort of jobs which are not only 'not sexy', but indeed some Brits - with or without a impressive curriculum vitae - groans that the jobs in question are beneath them. Need I go on...?
Unfortunately, Yahoo Answers has awoken most of us at how thoughtful (and thoughtless) some of us can be. In fact Answers give us all a say, which is pretty depressive as apart from seeing good answers - we also see a great deal that are worded to wind up and incense on account of the composer seeing something in a populist newspaper early that day...and of late, UK media have got their (and our) knickers in a twist, and certain politicians who for years and years have been so silent, most thought they were dead, create a circus they knew the populist media would love.
'But overall the standard of answers is not good enough', says Fidget (with 197 to his name)...whoops.

Yahoo Q&A are very useful for those who know how to pick gold
from Mixture of sand and gold. There is story about mahatma gandhi- "once he was going to south Africa by a ship. An Englishman traveling by the same ship hated Gandhi from his guts. So he wrote severl pages of abuse and handed the same to Gandhi and told him to read saying "this will guive you some useful tips". Gandhi scanned through the sheef and finding it to be rubbish consigned it to the waste paper basket.
Next day the englishman came and asked"Mr Gandhi- what useful thing did you find in it? Gandhi went to the tabkle and brought a pin and showed him saying "the only useful thing I could find was this"

For all the obvious jokes about the retarded questions and whatnot on here - public discussion forums, especially one like YA based on asking questions, are a great thing for human progress. In terms of understanding both ideas and each other. It's an information revolution and truly international, and I think it rocks.

Oh wow, what a question.
And I thought the Q & A was just a pasttime for boredom.
No doubt everything we think, say and do contributes to the great wisdom out there, however I seriously doubt that our esteemed decision makers will log in and ask for our invaluable opinions.
If they do, we are ready ! YAY
