I am and have always been a Tigers fan, and have almost always hated the Yankees (mainly because the ba****ds always win in the end... almost), but Joe Torre is a class act. When he played ball (and hit .361 one year in the '60s) he was a good, solid, and sometimes spectacular player. After he retired and took up managing, it was obvious that the man knows the game of baseball. If Jim Leyland was not manager of the Tigers, I would hope the Tigers would try to get Torre to manage them. He has class, loads of baseball smarts, and the patience of a saint to put up with the fat windbag known as George Steinbrenner. If the Yankees fire Torre, they should be ashamed of themselves for letting Steinbrenner treat a class man like that.
