I overheard my husbands friend complaining that his wife of 6 years does not care about her appearance anymore. He was complaining that on her off days, she wears tattered sweats all day and never combs her hair. Sometimes when we go out on a double date she never dresses up. She might wear an old pair of jeans, an oversized t-shirt and some sneakers. He dresses nice all the time and sometimes, they don't even look like a couple because he always looks nice and she always looks dirty. When they first met, she always wore nice clothes, and her hair was always neat and that's what attracted him to her. I do not apply make up everyday but I always put on clean, nice clothes. I always comb my hair even if it's just back into a neat ponytail and when I do this I will put on some cute earrings and my husband always compliments me. I do this for myself because it's the way I was taught as a girl. How many women have kept up their appearance since marriage?

To: BORED AT WORK--I think you're wrong, as a matter of fact look at the answers here. I admit, some women let themselves go but I refuse to do that, married or not. I take pride in myself always and wouldn't have it any other way.

I have let myself go a little. I don't wear the makeup I used to & I don't dress up just to stay home...I do however dress up & I might put a little makeup on (but with my complextion I really don't have too) when we go out. I am a stay-at-home wife/mother & to take care of the house & kids I want to be comfortable so I wear sweats & a t-shirt with a ponytail around the house. And my husband still loves me & finds me attractive even if it may look like I just crawled outta bed cause he fell in love with me not the clothes & make-up.

About the same. I work outside the home, so I have to dress up and put on make up M-F. I have been married for 7 years and I have been with my husband for 12 years.

I was always told that if I started not to care he wouldn't either. I take extreme pride in the way that I look with or without him. I do this for my self, therefore if he decides to leave I am not left looking stupid dressed in some raggedy clothes and no makeup.

We gotta give them a reason to stay with us. Because if we don't they will start looking else where.

if i'm going to the grocery store to buy milk, i'm in jeans and a tee. my lipstick is always on and my hair is always groomed. but no, i dont' spend the same amount of time in the mirror as i once did. i have 2 kids and a house to deal with. time is short. i do what i can with what i have. thank heavens i have a bit more than most. but if anyone can tell me how to drop that last 20 lbs of baby fat i'd be eternally grateful. and honestly, i'd probably do more to make myself look nicer.

YES I always look desent. I haven't changed that at all. My husband always tells me how good I look. Even on those off days. I get up and change into something nice. I just feel that looking dirty isnt something that your man would want to see.

It sounds like your husband's friends wife is not happy. Usually when women stop caring about how they look it's because they don't feel appreciated by their husband's. Actually, he should be complaining to his wife and not your husband.

I do take pride in my appearance. I continue to do so. Some wives get so consumed by their families that they/we forget to take care of ourselves.
