Well its clear that if you want a superior machine, then the PS3 is the choice to go with. But even though I know that the PS3 is so much better doesn't mean it's a better system or that you will enjoy it more. Honestly unless you are really hooked on Next-gen graphics and have the HDTV and everything, then the Wii is a much better choice. Remeber $600 is the least you are gonna spend on the PS3. It has no games and possibly not all the necessary ports. The Wii comes ready to play and even has a free game included. My recommendation? Buy a Wii for Christmas and save up for a PS3 next year when you won't have to kill for one.

Depending on how your son is, a Wii is definitely the system you want. You won't have to spend 600$, instead you can spend 250$ and buy him a few games and accessories. Also, the PS3 is definitely for the hardcore gamer, but the systems potential won't be reached for at least two years, so I'd wait until the developers learn to work with the PS3 before buying one. Also, the Wii has a killer lauch, the new Zelda, of course, and the system already comes with Wii Sports. The Wii will be more fun for the whole family with its new intuitive controller, and compared with the PS3, it'll be more fun for your money. Hope that helps.

It is really tough to answer this question due to the fact that it's mostly a decision based on personal preference. I'd like to have both myself, but that is a lot of money to spend, and frankly I just don't have it. I think you need to look at the current list of games coming out for the systems and see if you think which is giving you the better value.

Personally, I can't afford the PS3 and am pissed that it costs so damn much. I like my PS2, but I wish they would've left out the Blu-Ray drive, it's too expensive. Although, White Knight Story and Final Fantasy XIII are two games I'd really like to have. Another problem with the PS3 is the fact that they are going to be very hard to come by due to Sony's manufacturing problems and short supply.

I will be getting a Nintendo Wii at launch. There are going to be many more available and I generally like the games more on Nintendo systems. I love Zelda, Wii Sports (which comes free with the system) looks like it will be fun to play with friends, Excite Truck looks like a fun time too. Of course, in the future, I'm looking forward to Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and the next Mario Party game. Although, the Wii will not have as good of graphics as the PS3. If that's a sticking point for you, definitely consider it. (Just to clear up what a person above me said, the Wii also has free online capabilities.)

In the end, you'll just have to decide for yourself. I recommend checking out the links below to help with your decision.

You should save money for a PS3 is gonna have awesome games with perfect graphic. And Sony decided to include the HDMI cable just check Google news. Nintendo Wii is just g@y the controller looks terrible how can anyone control that crap your son won`t know how to use that crappy new controller.

Don't know about the Nintendo but the PS3 does have free online capabilities.

The only problem. You probably won't be able to find any pre-orders anywhere. If you want it by xmas, there's a good chance you are going to have to wait in line on the launch date. That means a good wait of at least 8 hours if the place opens at midnight, some places overnight. They're already selling "preorders" on Ebay for roughly $1,600 - $2,000 and it's estimated that if the PS3 is still highly limited in quantities during Xmas.......add another $500 on top of the Ebay bidding price right now. And remember, that's the bidding price right now for a product that won't be out for another month.

How old's your son? I think that's going to make a big difference. If he's younger than 14 I would get him the Wii. Over than 14 tell him to get some odd jobs so he can get his own system or at least help pay for it. 600 bucks is a lot for a system that he might get sick of after a couple of years.

The wii would be more suitable for younger kids and its only $250. But the ps3 is so expensive I can't afford it. Another option would be the 360. I just bought one and it's great!

it's really kind of a trade off. the PS3 is more expensive but the graphic capability is without rival, except for the x-box 360 but, the downside for the x-box is the shortage of games for it and its not fully backwards compatible. the Nintendo wii however should have a good selection of games with it many of them more kid oriented then most. but the downside is its graphic capability is lower and the controller scheme (although innovative and kinda of fun) is very taxing for a kid because many of the controls will require dramatic movement of the controllers
