playstation fell and hit the floor fairly hard.. now the cd drive wont open unless manually pulled, and even then won't open farther than halfway. i tried connecting an external cd drive to it, but it didn't read the disk. is there another game system that is compatible with playstation 2 games? i dont want to spend 130 dollars on a new system... is it possible to repair the cd drive, and if so how much would it cost (approximately)?

No other system is compatiable. The PS3 will be but come on if you don't want to pay $130 you sure aren't going to want to pay $500 or $600. Plus you'd have to reserve it now and wait for it to come out. Anyway it is proably possiable to repair it, although wouldn't really recommend doing it yourself. You could see how much a used system would be. I would see if there is anywhere that fixes them to ask how much if would cost to fix it. Another question though would be about the laser. Maybe the laser that reads the discs is messed up as well. A hard fall that screwed up the drive like that may have messed up the laser eye as well.
