What is so bad about testing make-up or shampoo or any other items on animal? Why do some people not buy the brand Mac because it has animal testing? Do they kill the animals JUST to do that? Does it make them sick? I'm not quite sure so I really need answers. THANK YOU! <3

Peoples opinions on animal testing differs, some are ok with it if it is for valid medical reasons and tests are done ethically, others refuse to accept animal testing full-stop.

In many cases when animal testing is done it is done when it is unnecessary – for example done when they know a certain ingredient will cause harm, when they know a certain ingredient will kill or harm the animal being tested upon, when testing has already been carried out on the ingredients being tested, when the product is no where near being released, on large numbers of animals when it is not necessary, or when it is simply not required.

There are also then cases when animals are unfairly or cruelly treated, Huntington Life Science is a good example of this, the animal testing was not only unethical but it was found those in the labs were badly treating the animals, such as beating the animals.

A lot of the products you use – shampoo, make-up, shower gel – contain chemicals that are bad for human health, many ingredients they need to test to see what the negative effects are, in many cases chemicals are tested in greater amounts to what is put into a product or chemicals are tested that are found not to be suitable for use on humans.

Animal testing can do very nasty things to animals, from sores on their skin through to painful deaths – unfortunately some people do take things a little too far, such as PETA or Animal Aid, but there are real ethical issues in using animals for testing, medical testing many see as acceptable, however when it comes to products that are not necessary to humans such as make-up it is not seen as acceptable to see animals suffer or die.

Here are some links about animal testing, as said some people can take things a bit too far so take their information with a pinch of salt - the first two sites are pretty unbiased with some of their information;

first of all what kind of life is it for those poor animals to be locked up in cages there whole life and contiuosly poked and prodded and second i see no reason they can't be their own test dummies or hire other people to do that particular job it can't cost any more per year than feeding the animals and paying someone to take care of them so why not test on people it only makes sense because in the end it's humans using the products

Animals were here before us and will be here long after we're gone. They should not be subjected to harm and even death just to test some stupid product that people might use. They also have no control over anything what happens and can't say anything about the testing. With people, they are not as likely to be harmed, more than likely wouldn't die, and they can say whatever they need to say about the product.

Ok, really, they test it on the animals fur and if the product isnt right it can burn their skin, make their hair fall out, they would also test it in their eyes to see if it irritated them, possibly make them eat it so they will know what advice to give out if someones child drank it. How could you not think about all that? How did you think they tested it? You didnt think that it was safe from the very start and wouldnt hurt an animal in anyway, did you?

There are 2 sides to this issue. In some ways I disagree with it, and in others I do agree with it. I think when animal testing is a good thing is when scientists are doing research to help in the medical field and possibly save a life or just make life easier for someone. I think it is important to test medication on animals to help save someone. When I think it is bad, is when you kill an animal for a stupid reason. But, overall I agree with animal testing, depending on the product being tested.

Sometimes the animals die. Sometimes they grow horrid tumors, or get lung diseases or other organ problems. Products are tested on animals BECAUSE such bad things can happen, and the scientists want to know what they are so it doesn't happen to people.

What is wrong with it is that the animal might die. That's why they test it on animals and not humans seeing as they'd have all sorts of lawsuits if a person died. These companies figure that a dog(or another animal) is similar enough to a human, so let's see the effect of our skincare(for example) on a dog. They would then shave the dog and apply the skincare. If the formula was unsuccessful, the dog might break out in hives or receive a fatal skin rash. And that's why animal testing is horrible.

They do horrible, painful things to them! It is torture!
Animals are routinely cut open, poisoned, and forced to live in barren steel cages for years, although studies show that because of vast physiological variations between species, human reactions to illnesses and drugs are completely different from those of other animals.
