How come sheet music for most songs you hear on the radio is transcribed half a step lower than the actual recording?

It could be that the version they recorded is in a more difficult key, with like 5 sharps or something. There are a lot of factors that effect sound fidelity, though. Pitch can be different depending on the CD player you use, the radio station, whether your piano is in tune or not, etc.
