Hair doesn't turn white overnight, however it can appear to happen. If you have a mixed head of hair, some grey/white and some pigmented, a sudden shock can caues the rapid loss of the pigmented hair leaving only the grey/white hair. This would give the appearance that your hair had turned white overnight, but what would have happend is you lost all your pigmented hair leaving only the grey/white hair.

No it can't although extreme shock causes a chemical reaction in us and this can change your body. This change can be the cause of peoples hair going white, but it takes round 3 months for the white hair to come through.

I am surprised at the number of positive answers...
How can your hair change color? Its already outside of your body, there is no circulatory system or anything else supplying or fortifying your hairi - Its just a bunch of organic material with pigment in it! How could being scared affect that???? You might was well try to say that your CLOTHES changed color because you were scared.
Now I suppose it is possible that NEW hair could change color, so maybe roots could turn gray/white, but is their real evidence this has ever happened?

NO! Grey Hair is actually transparant hair. The difference between it and your normal hair is you have stopped producing the pigment which gives you the colour you once had. This happens gradually and even if it did happen all in one go you would have to grow out the colour or shave it off and wait at least two weeks to see a difference. This really is old wives tale territory!

When my dad's sister was 14 she died suddenly and unexpectedly. My Grandma (her mother) was so shocked her hair turned completely white in three weeks.
So yes, but not overnight.

Your hair can turn white overnight whether or not you have a shock; you use a funny substance known as hair dye.

Yes. It happened to the grandfather of an ex-girlfriend when he was in his twenties. He was given the news that his brother was killed during the war. The following morning his hair was whiter than white.

No way. If (adult men) circulate gray it is powerful because of the fact they won't circulate bald earlier their time. No, your hair can no longer substitute "white" in a single day via marvel or apprehensive. White or gray hair is shade loss and that incorporates ageing. stay properly.

its only stress that causes your hair to turn 'white' but it doesnt happen over night. i found a white hair when i was doing my A-Levels, so i asked around and they said its because i must of got stressed for a number of days. which was true, i had lost all my ICT coursework so had to complete it in just a week!
