About a year or so ago, I found out about furry porn (from YTMND in case you're interested). At first, I thought it was like... joke pornography; so, like most things I find funny, I did a google search for it. And, of course, found whole internet communities of furries and stuff.
So, I was just wondering, what causes people to become furries? I know you may not be able to actually answer the question 100% clearly, but give it your best shot. I'm thinking maybe furries received more loving attention from pets then their own parents, or maybe they just had an interest in animals growing up. I'm just kind of curious because furries/yiffies are seemingly all over the internet, but you just never talk to them.
And since there's a lot of people who hate furries, please keep your comments to yourselves.

Furries are non-threatening fantasies. They get into fur-piles, where they all congregate together in their costumes, and feel safe because after all, they are making out with a teddy bear/raccoon/rabbit whatever. Some furries choose not to bathe or launder their costumes so that they have a feral odour which can be a turn-on. There is also the anonymity that is erotic - if you think of yourself as ugly, perhaps a cute costume gives you more confidence.
