Do you have obd, should be a check engine lite on dash ?
need scanner to get trouble code.
Turning over and starting are NOT the same thing.
Timing belts do not cause intermittent starting.
efi has no carb.
Not alt., fuel pump, spark plugs or fuel filter. "when it starts it runs great"
" I pulled the coil wire etc." not real proof, spark could be weak or being grounded intermittently.
not battery, "it starts 1/2 the time"
seeking e, I doubt it but check it out.
Changing parts before the problem is an expensive way to diagnose and seldom works.
If you can get your car in a garage or, somewhere totally dark, open the hood and have someone watch while you crank the engine, or you watch etc., , and watch carefully for a spark, around the distributor and any where there are ignition wires.
I have solved problems this way.. Things like cracked distributor caps, coil wires that shorted to ground, things you can't detect under light.

Try checking your mass airflow sensor, mounted behind the air cleaner box, if equipped. Anything even as small as a pineneedle can alter the readings and make your car not start.Otherwise, it may have a MAP sensor. Also check that the fuel filter has been changed recently, could be clogged. Use some fuel injector cleaner too.
