My house is a century old next year. It is the first house in the neighborhood. Where do I start researching the history? To find out the original owners, who built it and any other interesting factas about it. I was hoping to do the research on the internet, is this possible?

you are really probably going to have to dig into paper records. it depends upon the technology of your city/community. so, start by digging up any local records possible, including former owners, details on property lines, etc. i would go down to your courthouse and just work your way back from the present.

i love old houses for this reason! congrats on having such a treasured part of history & good luck on your search!

You go to the Courthouse of the county where you live and talk to the Recorder of Deeds. Records that old MAY be on the internet, but not all of them have been made accessible that way. What you would be doing is called a "title search". You can also pay a professional to do it for you.

start with your local tax office, where you pay your real estate taxes, talk to folks living in your neighborhood who have lived there for a long time, check the archives of you local newspaper, contact the local builders association, hey should be able tel direct you to finding who the builder was. usually a house that age was built by the family, not a commercial builder, the owner would have been assisted by family and friends
