because if they are not semipermeable, they will just let everything into the cell, even bad stuff, and if they are not permiable at all they will let nothing in and the cell wont get any nutrients

A cell membrane needs to be permeable so that there can be exchange of nutrients and waste. Without there being a way in and out of the cell the cell wouldn't be able to acquire what it needs to live. Semipermeable rather than just permeable just allows the cell to be selective with what comes and goes.

Basically cell membranes have to be semipermeable to let something in and to block others from passing through mostly membranes have protiens imbedded in them that allows for only that substance to that protien to pass through I.E. say glucose

selectively permeable membranes filter out stuff that shouldn't be entering the cell.

I don't know much about artificial kidneys, but I would imagine that it works like the selectively permeable membrane by taking in the waste products only so they can be eliminated.

it's important that cells are semipermeable because it can let somethings in like oxygen, hydrogen and water. but it doesn't let everything in, like glucose.

they need to be simepermeable so that things that they need can get in, and so that things that they dont need or would damage then stay out.
