The Bristol Omnibus Company provided bus services throughout a large area of the West Country. It was absorbed by the National Bus Company in the late 1960s, and is now part of the First Group. I would like to know who onded the company prior to The National Bus Company.

Any information about the Western and Southern National would also be appreciated.

The National Bus Company was created by the Transport Act 1968 and came into being on 1 January 1969. Initially it took over the road passenger transport interests of the British Transport Commission. At the time, Bristol Omnibus, Western National and Southern National were part of the British Transport Commission.

But I do not think that is the answer you are looking for, so now for a lesson in history!

The British Transport Commission commenced operations on 1 January 1949, acquiring the interests of various transport undertakings (road, rail and sea; passenger and transport), with powers to bring other companies into state ownership. (A proposal to nationalise the municipal transport undertakings was dropped after pressure from various Councils, notably Newcastle-upon-Tyne.)

The Commission acquired the "big four" railway companies. (In effect these companies were already being operated as nationalised concerns, with their revenues guaranteed at 1921 levels, but with the government deciding upon tariffs and service levels.) These rail companies also owned and operated bus companies (the reasons are too complex to explain properly here). Two such railway-owned companies were Western National and Southern National.

Thomas Tilling Ltd, which owned, inter alia, Bristol Omnibus, sold out to the British Transport Commission.
