"The Marine," a revenge thriller marking the feature film debut of WWE star John Cena. It opened at No. 6 with $7 million, roughly in line with expectations. The Grudge 2 opened with $22 million.
Do you think WWE over-advertised it and caused it to flop?

I just think it blew.

Cena was better than expected and will probably have offers to do more movies, but the character in this movie was so silly.

Spoiler (don't read further if you haven't seen the movie):

I mean, how many times did he get shot at while he was driving the Sheriff's car? The car looked like swiss cheese, but we're supposed to believe not only that Cena didn't get hit, but also that the car was still running just fine? No way.

Probably, but WWE Films makes "garbage" movies. Most of their movies are rip-off variations from other movies. They need to come up with something original and mark their territory in the film industry. In addition, WWE Films has a history of bad release dates. Examples include: "See No Evil" - opened when "The Da Vinci Code" opened - "The Marine" - opened the same week as "Departed" and "The Grudge 2". The company has a lot to learn.

Any movie that's opening in the middle of October that's not a horror movie is going to flop. They needed to release that at the begining of summer or around Memorial Day. It's that simple.

No I think it's that time of year. Should have been released in the summer time would have done better.
