Indhira Gandhi improved her country so much, they assassinated her.
Don't even mention Maggie, she destroyed our Trade Unions instead of kerbing them, allowing employers to walk all over their staff.

All the three are distinctly different questions. Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher were elected as leaders not by virtue of the fact that they are ladies. They became leaders, like any other citizens of their respective countries. In the US also, if Hillary is found fit to govern them, the American will not hesitate to elect her. She will not be denied her chance, simply for the reason of her being a female. And further, they are not obliged to elect her as the leader, merely to show that they are not lagging behind India or England in electing a female as their leader. It must happen as a matter of choice of the people.

As regards your last two queries, I must say that both these two leaders, whatever be their shortcomings, made their nations feel pround about their respective countries.

That would have little bearing on what Hillary Clinton or another female politician would do as president.

I think the whole gender thing is too overblown. I believe women are just as capable of being a good president as a man is. I believe they are capable of being just as bad. It depends on the individual, not the gender.

We should never elect someone to be our leader based soley on their gender. However, if a female came along and articulated an better vision for America than her male opponents, I'd have no problem voting for her.

Both of your examples prove that women make excellent leaders... You also could have added Golda Meir...

But, honestly, I hate these questions, because they imply that there might be some reason to NOT elect a woman (and I think that type of ignorance is better left ignored)...

The right woman could get elected...
