Some friends and I are planning a trip this spring break. We want to do some mineral collecting along the way. I have been to Mt. Ida and the Crater of Diamonds Park in Arkansas and was thinking this would be a good place to go again. Any other suggestions for good places to collect minerals in the Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma areas?

Louisiana, not so much, heavily vegatated
Texas: Some great places around Austin (Petrified wood) and many more exotic minerals in far west texas/Big Bend. Big Bend is a long ways, but definitely worth it. Lots of old mercury, copper and not so prolific gold mines in the area.

Get off the road a ways in Big Bend and you can find some fairly young, very deep river carved canyons that should make you happy.

Quarries are always good places to find minerals.
