How accurate are ultrasound gender predictions? Has anybody had different results - like girl if boy has been predicted or vice versa?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and the technician who did my 19 week ultrasound told me that I was carrying a baby girl. Now it took the technician a very long time to find this out as the baby had crossed its legs and was refusing to change its position. After making me walk around and changing my position, She announced tht it was a girl without any explaination and finished the ultrasound and walked off.

I am now so curious abt the accuracy of the gender. I really wish she had shown me the ultrasound screen and explained to me why she thot I was carrying a girl... can she be wrong and I am carrying a boy?

PS: All my symptoms say that I have a boy and there hasnt been a girl in my family since last 33 years.

I love the baby whether its a boy or a girl.. but knowing would just help me so much with the shopping and deciding on the name.. it would just make me feel so much closer to the child I am carrying..

The accuracy depends a lot on how far along you are when you have the ultrasound done. The further along the better. My OB told me that an ultrasound before 5 mos. may not be very accurate for determining sex of the baby.

Then again my Sister-in-law had one at 7 mos. The tech said it was a girl. 3mos. later Kayliegh came out Kyle! Do yourself a favor and don't get to wrapped up in shopping for a specific gender. Go with more unisex and nuetrals until you know for sure.

You can also do what I did and "fake pains" at the beginning of the 9th mo. so my doc would order another ultrasound! It said girl and sure enough!

Well, symptoms are NOT an accurate indication of the baby's sex. Was the ultrasound done at your doctors office? If so, I'm VERY surprised that you weren't shown the baby on the screen or given a printout of the pictures! Heck, I had a total of 5 ultrasounds when I was pg (complications) and I got pictures and video from the 3 done in my doctors office.

Contact the office or ask at your next appointment for a copy of the ultrasound report and request to see the video/printouts. It sounds as though she was somewhat rude by walking off like that and I'd complain. But, yes, she could have been wrong. They say girl when they can't find the boy parts and sometimes they just don't see them.

Ask the dr, though, to find out more. :)

I think you should be alright with the answer. because it could be a possibility that is a girl. And all pregnancy are not the same believe me i know because I'm on my 6Th child and i can't being to tell you if it's a girl or a boy. But when i did get a ultrasound my baby had it's legs close. And the nurse told me that she was pushing more tore a girl and the only reason why i believe her is because they say that you can see the shadow of the boy's balls. I'm 7in half months and I'm still hoping that it's a girl for my husband sake.So ask for another ultrasound I'm sure your doctor will give you another, I am at the being of my ninth month.

I had my first ultrasound at 18 weeks. We were told it was a girl. At 30 weeks I had my second one. We found out that it was infact a boy. Most times the testicles are dropped down by 18 weeks but sometimes they take longer. That was probably the case for us. If you're as far along as 24 weeks, I would think it's pretty accurate. Always be prepared just in case though.God Bless and Congratulations.

Symptoms don't mean anything.

Yes, there are numerous times when the ultrasound is wrong. I knew people who were told they were having a girl so they went out and bought girly clothes and things but ended up having a boy. It sucked because they couldn't return any of the girl stuff because they had removed the tags.

sounds like you should get ready for a girl! At 24 weeks they should def. be able to tell if you are having a boy or girl. Trust me if its a boy by 24 weeks youw ill be able to know..my boys was very well pronounced at that time. Symptoms dont mean anything when it comes to what you are having..they are all old wives tales. Yes I agree though she should have shown you what made her believe you were having a girl, and shown you some pics. Hope that everything works out well for you!

I would say if by the second ultrasound you get the same answer then it is safe to say what sex. But if you get mixed results maybe the problem is with who's reading the results. If you feel the need go have an independent one done. Cost is around $250.00 in some places. Good luck with your bundle of joy no matter what sex>

It's a girl. People don't know what they are looking at anyway, so why would she show you. They usually just give pictures of the face, who wants a picture of the bottom. I believe even fetus' should have some privacy. Just face it you are having a GIRL!
