Halloween came from the Pagan holiday Samhain (pronounced "sow-when"). Like Ostara (now Easter) and Yule (now Christmas), the Christians "Christianized" the holiday. The Pope moved All Saints Day from the spring to coincide with Samhain, which was the end of the year. The name was changed to All Hallows Eve, until it's form now of Halloween.
Some Christians considered Christmas to be "too Pagan" and it wasn't always celebrated. Colonial Americans didn't celebrate it even! Halloween followed the same rout. However, Christmas is now celebrated by Christians, but Halloween isn't always. Many Christians see Halloween as still a Pagan holiday, and unfortunately they have many misconceptions about what Paganism is. Some Christians then draw the conclusion that to be Pagan is to be evil, and that Halloween is Pagan, therefore it's evil.
In summation, if Christians think that Halloween is evil because of it's Pagan roots, then should quite celebrating Christmas, which was once the Pagan holiday Yule, and Easter, which was once the Pagan holiday Ostara

Both Christmas and Halloween were pagan festivals taken over by the church. I've never figured out why everyone has a hissy fit about Halloween and has no problem with Christmas. Christmas was outlawed for years and wasn't really celebrated in the U.S. until the 1850s. It's not actually the birthdate of Christ. Most scholars feel His birth was in May. My church says nothing against Halloween and observes All Saint's Day.

definitely, Halloween originated by way of fact the 1st trip in a sequence of three holidays, the different 2 falling on November a million and 2. All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day (nonetheless celebrated by using the Roman Catholic Church and that i think of the Lutheran, Anglican, and Presbyterians, i dunno, yet those denominations have lots in effortless so i would not be shocked) are the real celebrations. All Saints' Day commemorates all people who've lived their lives in the kind of Jesus's existence extra so than the traditional individual. some the Church comprehend formally as "saints" on an identical time as others proceed to be unknown to the human international. All Souls' Day commemorates all people who've long previous before us and at the instant are in prefer of our prayers so their souls could delight ultimately results of heaven. As maximum of you comprehend, the latter 2 have taken the backseat on an identical time as Halloween, the least important of the three has replace into extremely customary. a tragic element, that's.

first Jesus could not have been born in devember.
the bible clearly states that the shepards were in the fields when they saw the north star. they shepards would not be in the fields in the winter. so that date is simply a date made up by the church to make it easier to convert pagans to their religion.
second all hallows eve was a holiday that was started by POPE Gregory. it is a christian holiday.
every christian holiday and service has Pagan influence in it.
focus on the celebration for what it is, a time to have fun. hollywood has made the holiday waht it is today. that is not how it started.
dress up and have some fun and go get some free candy with your kids. there is no evil in a rubber mask.
if you beliefe that there is, then dont dress your kids as devils they can always be batman or superman..or any number of positive figures throughout history.

It's considered a fall festival and they do it that way children can play games and have a safe place to have fun. I love halloween and I'm not a big church goier " I do believe in god though" I personally love that the church near where I live has an event like this it gives my son something to do and it gives me,his father, and him a family outing and memories for Tristan.

Hi,,, you know dixie, I have wondered this same thing....
I think that in the South, it was when i was a child, not good to associate All Hallows Eve with the church,,,, since it was associated with evil..and witchery,,, ect ect..
Maybe everyone has lightened up a little in time,, not that they are promoting evil,, but showing a good side to the fun of the holiday,, if this makes sense...
Also, since we have so many Wierdo ,Pedofile, Kidnapping people falling out of the woodwork,,, its better for the kids to have something all together than out wandering the streets......
Good luck...

It's all the Roman Catholic Church. There's nothing evil about Halloween. It's a Celtic holiday known as Samhain. Blah blah blah.

Most churches do not call them halloween celebrations. They call them fall festivals. The churches do this to try and lure children and families into the church and off of the streets.
