Well, it all really depends on your experience, what you want to play, and how much you want to spend on it. If you're just starting out, I suggest looking into a Squier Strat (made by Fender), or into the lower end Ibanez line. If you have some cash, you could look into a Fender Strat, an Epiphone (made by Gibson), or even the higher end of Ibanez. Then again, it all depends on your style and what you like to play. If you're an all-around kind of person, you can't go wrong with Fender, Ibanez, or Epiphone. If you're metal, then look into ESP, the G series of Ibanez, B.C. Rich, Jackson, or even some Epiphones. Solid rock guitars come from Fender, Gibson, Jackson, and even Ibanez. What really decides on a guitar is how it feels when you play it. I suggest going into your local music store and trying out guitars. Find one that you feel most comfortable playing....look into how the neck fits in your hand, the feel of the frets, and the ease of using the guitar overall. It takes a little time, and depending on your budget, you may not get too much of a choice. Look around and find "your" guitar, and you'll feel better when you find that "special" one. Good luck.

If you played a year and a half you will really not need something expensive. A squire might be good to start off with as they are a cheap Fender basically. if you want to spend a little more a fender is good because stratocaster and telecaster modles are very simple inside and so are open to anything. Most fenders dont have humbuckers and have single coil pickups making very smooth sounds. If you want rock get an Epiphone because they are the same as gibson basically but a gibson is about 5 times the price. I play an IBanez and have big hands and find it a little difficult but it is really awesome for anything. Guitarists like Joe Satriani and Steve vai play Ibanez but alot of famous guitarists use Fender. Eddy Van Halen, Eric Johnson Hope I helped

That depends on what style of music you will be playing. If your into metal or hard rock then you will want something with a tremelo bar (wammy bar), and a couple double humbucker pickups. Ibanez,Jackson,BC Rich and many others. If you want to jam the blues your best bet is a Fender Stratocaster, or a Telecaster. I like the 5 position tone switch along side the tone knob. So many tones you can get, its sweet. But, then their is Gibson. All you can say about a Gibson Les Paul is, wow. Nice neck, nice tones, especially on the high end models. About 2 to 3 thousand will get you a nice one. Les Paul standard and classic are the best. You'll know when you play this axe. I like the Ibanez too for all around jammin. I also did play a 60th anniversary Stratocaster at the Guitar Center. But your best bet is ordering one online. At the store people are always playing them and some get damaged. I've played Les Pauls with bent knobs. Or if you buy it in the box, like the lady said about the Fender package. But, if your looking for a beginner guitar, then thats the way to go. I've got a few axes, and like them all, but I found myself playing my Musicman Axis with Floyd Rose double locking tremelo the most. I dare anyone not to buy one of these after you play it. That is probably my all time favorite axe. I got it for $1600. about five year ago. I can't put it down. It only has a 3 way tone switch and a volume knob. But it sounds awsome and the action is incredible. I guess it's all what you feel when you pickup your axe.Buy what feels good, but try them all. Throw on a set of super slinky strings. I use 09's, but just ask for some nines. Its a lighter string and you can bend the hell out them. I still use nines unless I play a rhythm. But, I play lots of blues and bar strings and use arpeggios, so I like lighter gauge strings. This again is another personal preference, so do what feels good to you. But, if you plan on sticking with it you should buy a better model then something stamped out on an assembly line.

WEll, my favorite pretty cheap great to play guitar is Reverend Warhawk HB, or any other Reverend guitars... Reverendguitars.com, maybe a gibson Les Paul, but theres not much unique about that, and Im not sure if you want to spend thousands on it. If so, go with a les paul or maybe a Fender Strat, or Telecaster. Maybe even look up some Peavey guitars, those can be nice.

Are you a beginner? If you are, my son's guitar teacher recommended the Fender Strat Pack. It comes with the guitar, amp, case, tuner, etc. It's everything you need to get started at a reasonable price - with a fairly decent guitar.

If money is no object, a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul! Thats if you're into rock.
If you're into country, a Fender Telecaster.
If your genre is jazz maybe a Gibson ES 335.
