what does it mean when ppl say play music by f major or e major and so on

They are talking about the tonal centre or "key" of a specific piece of music. It means that the music will generally be centred around the given note name. Example: E major is centred around the note 'E' , F# Major is centred around the note 'F#' It also will indicate how mant sharps (#) or flats (b) are in the piece of music. Example: A Major has 3 sharps, Db Major has 5 flats etc. I could go into alot more detail but I think that should do it. I am doing my Masters in music right now.

That means they play music with notes. f major and e major are music notes

its the tune/key they want the song played in and f major and e major are notes......you know a certain pitch (high pitch/low pitch) if you know someone who plays piano or guitar they may be able to show you by playing a few notes

e or f is the key it is in... major just means the scale sounds normal... if it is minor then the 3rd is flat...
