Take 2 wet washclothes lay them down with the scarf in between and use an iron on medium or high for a few seconds. it melts the wax off easily.

Break off what you can and then sandwich between old tea towels or kitchen towels and iron it with a warm iron. You may have to do this more than once, but leave it to cool first before you try it again.
Good luck!

rub LANOLIN into the wax, it will dissolve and then you can wash it with a liquid hand soap.
Do not apply heat to wool, it only causes the protien in the fibers to burn and curl.
