He has a total of 30 days to work, or he'll finish on the 30th day, March 30. He'll type the final 3 days, the 28th, 29th, and 30th. He'll spend the previous 7 days writing, the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th. This means the first 20 days are used for research. Let x be the number of days he's researched so far, plus 3 times that number for the continued research, which must total 20 days.
x + 3x = 20
4x = 20
x = 5
He's researched for 5 days, so today is March 5th.

It's March 5. He has spent 5 days researching, and will do an additional 15 days (3x5days) researching, taking him to March 20. Add a week for writing, taking him to March 27, and three days for typing, finishing on March 30.

not 100% sure, but on March 27 he started typing, and so March 20 he started writing the paper. So the day is March 5, because he has researched for 5 days + 15 days(5x3).
