I presume you are looking at low voltage halogen sopts. They give as nush light as any other light but are a lot cheaper to run.

Low voltage wiring usually refers to any wiring that is used in a home (telephone, speaker, cable, etc..) but is not used to power a device. Usually you don't need a permit, professional electrian. It is less dangerous, safer shockwise and property damagewise. Someday they say that we will have LED lighting, which will probably be all low voltage.

yes, you can better customize the lighting ambience by adding and positioning small fixtures more easily then by putting in traditional fixures/ celing cans. It's easier to tweak the look of the room and to add lights where necessary.

Yes...if the lights have a low voltage, then they are generally dimmer than usual..

an advantage in this case is if you missus is a minger you wont be able to see....

do you mean low wattage, low voltage means you have a problem with your branch circuit.
