I recently bought a IBM laptop from eBay and it comes with a 802.11g Wireless LAN PC card. When I switch the laptop on, it suddenly connect me to the internet and I was browsing. BUT....I am not a subscriber of any internet service DSL or dial-up....AND I was not around or close to any internet wireless router when I use the laptop...I was in the middle of a parking lot. How was I able to access the net? It happened everytime I switch on the laptop even when I am in my office where there is no wireless service. Can someone enlighten me on this???

Several of the new computers and laptop have internet enabling devises - they pick up the internet from the closes tower - don't need hookup!@

Because the laptop has a wireless card and is able to pick up on a wireless network, that is not protected. If it was a protected network it would have asked for a user name and password for the network.

You must have a neighbor with wireless router and your computer modem is hooking up on the signal..

If you double click the connection screen on bottom right of screen it should show what connection you have and if others are available
