In the original with Lon Cheney, the Phantom dies. Count Raoul's brother dies. A few cops, I think. And the janitor guy in the very beginning. The Phantom is practically a serial killer.

the play version has the janitor being killed and the male tenor and people in the audience when the chandelier fell.
Does the Phantom die? It's left ambiguous...
