salvage yards,some repair shops not looking for profit on cars "left over".

You can buy 4 tires for $150. Why would you consider a new car if all you have is $500. All you'll be buying is problems. You've already got that with the car you own now.

Auto Auction houses can have some good deals, also police impound auctions have lower priced rides. Might try calling one of the places that accepts vehicles for a tax deductible donation and see if they sell or even give them away to needy individuals.

Go to your local junk yard, you can get some good deals. Not all are junk. My husband works part time at a junk yard, they get some real nice cars. People break up, and sell it so other don't get it, or death in family and don't want to see the car any more.
