The formulaic definition for kinetic energy is KE = (1/2)mv^2

Kinetic energy is what any object has when in motion. Energy can be tranferred into different forms, such as potential energy, chemical energy, heat, etc. Once as heat, however, the energy is thought as "permanently lost" since it cannot be transferred back to any other form ever again. Kinetic energy is one of the main forms of energy which is usually converted from potential energy. Potential energy, as it literally explains, is the energy of the object which has potential to be converted into other forms, usually kinetic energy. In case you're curious, one representation of potenetial energy is the formula: PE = mgh
PE = potential energy (in J)
m = mass
g = gravitational acceleration (in m/(s^2))
h = (or x) = height (in m)

For example, if I hold a 5 kg ball 3 meters high, with Earth's gravity being approximately 9.8 m/(s^2), I will have a total potential energy of:
PE = (5 kg) * (9.8 m/(s^2)) * (3 m) = 147 J
Using this information, I can easily calculate the velocity of the ball right before it lands:
KE = 147 J = (1/2) * (5 kg) * v^2
solving for v, I get v = approximately 7.67 m/s

The different forms of energy are mainly used in order to discover other values easily. Depending on the situation, you will need to use different formulas for energy in order to solve for some other value.

In general, the purpose of the different forms of energy is to calculate how the values for different constants have been converted into different forms. Energy of a system usually never changes--it is just converted into different forms. Kinetic energy relates to the motion of an object, or objects, of a system.

Kinetic energy is the result of potential energy in motion. The reason is all matter contains energy, wether it is potential or kinetic. Energy and matter are basicly of the same thing.
(The law of conservation)

ie: You hold a pool ball, the ball has mass (M). Since you are holding the ball its velocity (V) is 0m/s. Mass has energy, right? And right now the energy is POTENTIAL because the velocity of the ball is 0.

Experimenting energy transfer:

Formula: Ke=MV^2

Ke is the kinetic energy
M is the mass
V is the velocity (speed)
^2 is the square of the speed

Now you throw the pool ball at a thin glass window for example...The ball now has a speed superior to 0, because it is moving, the energy is now KINETIC.

Why? > The mass of the ball multiplied by its velocity is now kinetic energy. (mass in movement)

Proof: the glass brakes!

Example: When a roller coaster goes up to the very top of the tracks, the highest peak, it has the most potential energy. As it goes down the track, that energy turns into kinetic energy. The reason? All the momentum that came with the trip up to the highest point is kept up, and so the roller coaster goes very quickly down the tracks.

Kinetic energy is the energy of a mooving object. The reason is physics. The Universe works as the Universe works.

KE is the 1/2 the mass of an object multiplied by the velocity squared.

That is the energy required to get the object up to speed, and also the energy you could harness out of an object if you decelerated it to zero.

So KE is the energy stored in a moving mass by its motion.

i think its like when things are moving they create kinetic energy
