It's based on the ridiculous notion that Africans all live in jungles and swing through the trees like Tarzan. It's a really stupid so-called "joke".

I agree with all of the people who answered who are above me. It makes perfect sense what they said. It is a racial, white person joke. No offense white people I just said that for the people who think it is funny and for the jerk who made it up.
