Hey DISCORD, im sure you know that your Punk music branched from 70's and 80's metal (led zeppelin, metallica) so i dont think you really have an argument here. sorry bud.

I would go with 80's Thrash - though I'm more a fan of hair metal.

Punk most definitely did not branch from metal. Punk has roots in the late 60s with the Stooges and the Velvet Underground. The Velvet Underground formed in 1965, the Stooges in 1967 and Led Zeppelin didn't get together until '68. Metallica wasn't even in the picture until the 80s. Furthermore, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath (also in the late 60s) were both in England while the punk bands I mentioned were located in NYC. Bands such as Motörhead and Iron Maiden were influenced by punk, not the other way around.

That said, I prefer punk. However, I'm not so narrow minded as to shut out all other genres, and old metal is far better than numetal. I'm not a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, although I don't dislike them. Judas Priest is alright, and I like some 80s metal like Metallica and Guns N' Roses. Black Sabbath to me is so-so.

Well my opinion is that Nu-Metal is better than Thrash.
