In abortion you kill the fetus but what do they do in stem cell research - do they kill a fetus to.
Roman Catholics believe that abortion is totally wrong, but that stopping the sperm before fertilisation is considered right.
So anyway, what happens to the sperm in stem cell research and does stem cell research need sperm only or does it need it to be grown into a fetus?

actually, Roman Catholics do not "believe" that stopping sperm from reaching the egg is acceptable; the only acceptable form of birth control is abstinence; all others are not allowed by the Church.
the difference between stem stell research and abortion is that there is not foetus in stem cell research; there is no implantation of the egg into the uterine wall, so there can be no foetus.
stem cell research requires a fertilised egg, which can be achieved only by pairing a sperm cell with and egg cell. It is possible to clone human eggs and to combine dna from two eggs, thus eliminating the need for the sperm, but this procedure is not currently used in stem cell research
as to your originial question; stem cell research is similar to abortion in that both procedures do not recognise the fertilised egg or the foetus as unique beings with a basic right to life; no rights at all, in fact. The Catholic church absolutely condemns stem cell research by the way.

Stems cells are diploid cells that have the potential to differentiate into any cell type in our body. The sperm has already fertilized the egg at this point. "Fetal" stem cells are the early cells of an embryo which have not yet been determined. Under the right conditions, these cells can what you want them to be.

There are also placental stem cells and adult stem cells, but scientific experimentation with these stem cells have been disappointing at best.

As far as killing human life, I personally don't think it is. At this point, these cells have few characteristics of a fully developed person. They have potential, but to equate 8 or 16 cells to a child or an adult is extreme and frankly (and I don't mean to offend) not logical.

As far as its similarilty to abortion, it is not similar to fetal abortions that most people think of. These stem cells are cells derived from "abortions" created in the lab during artificial insemination. They are embryos, not fetuses. Do you know how many "abortion" or miscarrages occur so early in pregnancy that the woman never knows a pregnancy occurred? I quote E-medicine.com, " With the development of highly sensitive assays for hCG levels, pregnancies can be detected prior to the expected next period. When these highly sensitive hCG assays are used early, the magnitude of pregnancy loss significantly increases to about 60-70%." The embryos in these cases are much closer to the embryos used to stem cells, and quite frankly, our society does not mourn the loss of them. So our society's condemnation of stem cell research but indifference to preserving these early stages of life seems highly hypocrytical.

There are not any cons. Stem cellular learn can save hundreds of thousands of lives and that i admire staring at those freaks protests it. Me thinks that if theyw ere dying or a kin member become dying and stem cells ought to save them, they'd not cry for embryos and quite celebrate dying for themselves or the kin member. Idiots. that is unhappy how a lot of human beings will die b/c we are even dropping time debating whether to learn stem cells or no longer. Why do the freaks ought to wreck each little thing?

It isn't. The whole argument about stem cell research is about whether the GOVERNMENT should fund it or not. Nobody is stopping stem cell research in the private sector.

Yes to collect stem cells a human embryo is destroyed. There is some discussion that these embryos would never develop into fetuses in any case but in my opinion it's still destroying human life.

The embryos used in stem cell research does NOT come from abortions. Abortions are preformed on fetuses. The embryos used are those left over from artificial insemination procedures.

It's not a fetus.. it's only a fertilized egg in a test tube.... A fetus is when the embryo has developed it's major organs and structure....

It isn't. The thought is that if they allow stem cell research to proliferate, then there might be more abortions simply to harvest the cells.

IF YOU STOP FEEDING SOMETHING AND IT DIES, THEN IT STANDS TO REASON IT WAS ALIVE.

THE QUESTION IS TO WHAT LENGTH WILL WE GO AS A RACE OF PEOPLE TO BETTER THE LIVES OF THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY HERE?

ALL THE RELIGIOUS GROUPS ARE AND HAVE BEEN SUCKING LIFE FROM THE WORLD SENSE THE BEGINNING. KIND OF ABORTING FREE THOUGHT AND PERSONNEL CONTROL.

AT SOME POINT IN TIME WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE SOME CHANGES, JUST LIKE THE CARS WE DRIVE, EVERYTHING MUST EVOLVE TO A BETTER LEVEL,

WITH SOME SACRIFICES WE CAN FIX MUCH THAT IS WRONG, IN OUR LIVES.
