Do a simple mental review of what you have eaten in the last 48 hours and decide if the stool could be associated with a food.. For instance eating spinach or other dark green vegetables can result in a dark green stool..

If that is the case give it another day or two and see if the color returns to normal as the last of that food leaves your system...

Black or Reddish tinged stool can indicate bleeding or ulcers in your digestive tract if the color remains very dark without a food associated with the color visit your Dr they can do a simple fecal test to determine if it is blood in the stool causing the dark color or some other cause... And treat the issue accordingly...

YES... your prenatal vitamins will change the color of your stool, especially if you aren't taking them with a FULL (8 oz.) glass of water every day. I think the water helps dilute them or break them down faster or something.

If your stool is completely black, then that could signify blood in the intestines, and you'll really need to get that checked. But if it's an ugly dark greenish color, you're experiencing what every other pregnant woman goes through when she takes a vitamin with extra iron. It isn't pleasant, but we all go through it.

Iron can cause you to have discolored stools. If you are on iron you should ask your doctor to put you on repliva iron supplements. I was on these during my pregnancy and they did not cause the common side effects associated with iron - ie; constipation, discolored stools and nausea.

Are you on iron tablets? That might do something to your stools.
But, see a doctor. you need to hear from a medically trained professional as to whether to worry about this or not.

You could always go to your local furniture shop and get a different coloured stool....you don't have to stick with greenish/black...pregnant or not.
