and why did he change the name to Sirius?

Achilles was elevated to the stars by Zeus for the same reason all the others were, he was a Greek hero, worthy of being remebered by all, and to inspire the next generations. He was also Zeus' son so no doubt nepotism played a part, that and spiting his wife Hera, which he seemed to enjoy doing.
Sirius (or, the Dog Star) was the name the Romans gave to the star, not the Greeks.

i think sirius is the roman or greek name(romans adopted greek gods) and because zeus thought achilles was a brave and good person i think
