Our beardie is almost a year old and licks his rocks all the time, when we put in new sand he spends a great time on licking it. I know other animals I have had needed a salt ring or something in their cage so I was wondering if our little dragon needed more salt to his diet too??? He is health and seems to be growing well and we give him a large variety of foods. But I can't find anything telling about salt??

no they do not need a salt supplement. but you do need to give him his vitamins which contains the salt that he needs. i have 2 of them and they are about 1 1/2 feet long and i have never gave them a salt suppliment, the vits that you give them have the salt that they need in their diet. they use their tongue for smelling and when you change his sand and give him fresh bedding he is smelling it. beardies are very curious animals and they do alot of smelling and it is normal for them to do this. no need to worry about him he is just fine. mine do the same thing when i do a bedding change, and they do it when i do anything different in their cage. no need to worry.

no they do not need salt. What type of sand are you using? if its calci-sand thats why hes licking it. Its not that great a product as it can cause impaction. you should just use playsand. Are you sprinkling cricket dust and vit D on his insects? with the proper lighting, vitimin dust and veggies/fruit he should get all the vit/salt/calcium he needs
