I'm looking to get a nice 1.5 karrot to 2.2 size stone, without spending an arm and a leg. I'd still like it to be in G and above color, SI and above clarity etc..and a decent cut. I just feel there is such an upcharge with going to your typical mall jeweler.

i've worked at a local pawn shop for 5 years now, and i can tell you that compared to any retail shop, we are definately cheaper!! there is nothing wrong with buying a diamond ring that is previously "used"...its not like you can tell by looking at it! and you could always buy a brand new mount for the diamond itself. check with your local pawn shops, you will be amazed at how much cheaper their prices are. also, we can order you brand new jewelry from the exact same place that all of the expensive retail stores order from for a fraction of the price. its definately worth checking into if you want to save some money!

Most woman look for cut, clarity and color first and size last - this means that a large yellow diamond that is not flashy when they show their girlfriends will be made fun of "it looks like he skimped on quality to get a big rock..." Chicks are catty and even though they all want a BIG rock - they all seem to know the other quality components - you will be seen a cheesy if these don't stack up to the size. Make sure it sparkles etc. - then go for the big size. Having said that - diamonds carry a big mark-up - not sure where you get a good deal. Only Debeers and Tiffany diamonds have any sort of 'resale' - but that is not important since if you break up - she will keep the ring!!!

RE: Where is the best place to buy a diamond engagement ring? Mall chain stores or local retailers, etc.? Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on this - are the stores in the mall selling quality diamonds, or is it better to go local? What is the better store to go to as far as national chains? Thanks!
