It seems as if he was only thinking of himself and not about his wife and kids. If he wanted to go and play war why did he not do it after high school and pursue it as a career?

There was a great article in Sports Illustrated a few weeks ago, about Pat Tillman. It was several pages long. I highly recommend reading it if you're really searching for an answer to your question.

Pat struggled with his feelings of this war being just, but he felt that it was his duty to fight for his country when they needed him to. He already made a decent amount of money playing football.....alot more than most of us will make in a lifetime. He was thinking about his wife and kids when he went.......by fighting for his country's safety, he was fighting for their safety. To stay and play football for mere money, instead of standing up for his country when they needed him, was not the example that he wanted to set for his children.

No way. I saw ESPN's Outside The Lines this morning. They had some interviews with him. My point of view was that there is no ego. Was he the best Saftey in the league. He was good. I just don't think turning down a NFL contract and doing something that he believed in. Fighting for his country.

There was no egomainia about it. Egomania would have been if he would have continued to play a GAME for millions of $$$ instead of standing for something he believed in.

Rest in Peace, CPL Tillman.

Unlike many these days, Tillman had an honest love for his country.

No, he wanted to defend his country so he gave up a nice, multi-million contract for a heckuva lot less to put his own life on the line for freedom.

It takes a man to take that big of a pay cut to follow a good cause.

Totally agree with broncofan's response.

Tillman just marched to a different beat than most people. He wanted to live life to it's fullest. I'm sure his wife knew that going in, but I'm pretty sure getting killed by friendly fire was not in the big plan.

He was standing for his country.... right or wrong, like the idea of being over there or not, don't hate the soldiers.... you can hate the president, but don't take it out on the soldiers.
