Most of us spend somewhere between 7 and 8 hours at school, and for the students who participate in extra-curricular activites, it's even longer. Why spend more time on schoolwork than is necessary?

well its the general concept that students tend to waste their time at home doing useless stuff and homework (they think) can keep them busy...

you didnt specify which level of education u are talking about..

personally i feel homework at elementary level can actually do good to students while the effect wears off as the level of studies increases with no point whatsoever for homework after grade 10 (the most) since the student matures a lot and can actually feel that he's able to prepare a study schedule for himself.

Homework is simply practice...How much of the assignment gets stuck in your book during class so you can talk to your friends instead of doing the work? Many teachers use homework to get you to study the material so you will do well on their quizzes and tests. Additional homework is meant to help you learn the material more thoroughly. School is meant to teach you how to balance your life. Academics, social, and physical activities are all important. You will have to learn how to prioritize and find the right combination of activities that help you towards your goal of graduation and getting into college. I would suggest finding a college you are interested in and investigate what their entrance requirements are... then modify your schedule accordingly. If they stress strong academics, maybe you should cut back on the extra-curricular activities and focus on your homework and grades. If your college wants a well-rounded individual, then learn to walk that fine line of balance required!! Remember, high school is merely a stepping stone to your future... it isn't the end-all goal of your life...merely a means to achieve your goals later in life.

State requirements make it necessary for homework. Everyone is being held more accountable these days, and that includes you.
